I would like to re claim my pasture from fescue to native grasses. TWRA suggested I cut the grass one last time end of Oct and then spray with gly-4.
Then in the spring do again depending on result.
Well I didn't get it done in Oct(deer season, life, etc)
Will I still get a result if I do this after the last frost, when the grass starts growing.
Agent told me if the gly-4 didn't work, he would give me some stronger stuff to apply.
Any suggestions on if this is still my best avenue. Agent said he would come out but I hate to bother them if I can get it done on my own.

Call Bernie and make him work! He is a good guy and won't mind coming out!

On a side note, Gly only works when the grass is actively growing. You will get a kill spraying after first frost, if the grass is growing, but you will have any that is dormant come back. Unfortunately, fescue will out compete most native grasses.

Not sure if you can do it, but you might consider burning the fescue then when it starts sprouting back spray it then seed the native grasses.

Yep that's who I called on your recommendation. Great guy just trying to keep from bogging them down

Oh and I asked about burning and he thought probably not necessary if I mowed then sprayed. Although I think this is an ongoing process and the burn would be a quicker restoration....

Fescue is relatively easy to kill and don't be afraid to kill everything when you spray. From now til like april or may is perfect time. Which really you can kill fescue anytime its green. You'd be surprised what will come up after you get that fescue outta there, it tends to smother everything else!
Another chemical that would be handy to have is Journey. It's a mix of glyphosate and imazapic. Native grasses are tolerant to imazapic, so it'll hit the fescue harder without hurting any native grasses that you're wanting to thrive.

So I should spray now? Wonder if journey is what TWRA said they could supply?

Twra should have Plateau which is straight imazapic. They may have Journey too.

Yes you can spray now. Since everything you want (native grasses) are still dormant it will only kill the fescue. If there's tall broomsedge there too, you may want to mow it first so the chemical can get to the fescue and make good contact.
